#220 - The State of the Railways

I hadn’t taken a train for some time, and I was worried about the delays, the lack of air conditioning, and the lowly state of the trains. But I had to change my mind: out of the three regional trains I took, all three were air-conditioned, the state of the carriages was decent, and the timetables were reasonably well respected.
There is the tiny detail that there are fewer and fewer trains worth travelling on, especially at weekends (heaven forbid that people can afford the luxury of a trip out of town without a car). It is also a pity about those ticket machines that did not accept any credit cards, not in a small station but in Milan’s Centrale, while there were kilometre-long queues to buy tickets everywhere.
Somehow, they seem to want to improve the service, but they can’t manage it.
