#162 - Transcendence

Let’s say that on a Tuesday night, you are lucky enough to see one of the films you know will be released and that you would like to see as a preview. Suppose at the entrance they make you sign a nice sheet saying that you will never, ever talk about the film before its official theatrical release and that immediately afterwards they bag your mobile phone, which is regularly switched off.
You almost forgot to write those two lines of review you were planning to write, as two posts, er, two days, have passed in the meantime.
Transcendence is a treat for the eyes, it has a good cast, and it’s apocalyptic, but, at least, very irritating because of the number of details too far out of reality. Yes, OK, it’s science fiction, but there’s science fiction and science fiction, and the kind that makes you think every two minutes that some things have no basis whatsoever when they’re not downright wrong is not good science fiction. OK, to suspend judgement, but killing it with a hammer is different.
It does have one great virtue: given the nature of the themes it deals with, it makes you think a lot. It is also a bit of a summation and quotation of many films and TV shows, old and new, which have dealt with similar themes but not all at once. Therefore, I recommend watching it, and I am sorry I missed the debate after the preview.
