#87 - Milan between the wars

If laziness does not take over, today we will see the exhibition Milan between the two wars. Discovering the city of the Navigli through the photographs of Arnaldo Chierichetti at Palazzo Morando, which runs until 13 February.
I am going to see it mainly because

A large section is dedicated to the Navigli, which for more than seven centuries lapped the banks of Milan.

I have always been fascinated by the Navigli.
I would have loved to see the little bridge that, behind my house in the now horribly busy Via Gioia, once led from Via Sondrio to Via Tonale or to see the boats carrying rolls of paper for the Corriere della Sera in Via Solferino.
It may be true that they were buried because of hygiene problems, but the fact remains that Milan has lost, by losing the Navigli, a good part of its peculiarity and typicality.
In any case, I am convinced that restoring them now is an operation that is, for the most part, too complex and costly and whose meaning can only be justified up to a certain point.
And so I like to see how it was and will no longer be.
