Dedicated to companies/2: belonging

There have been many changes in recent years regarding the population’s perception of work.
Indeed, one of these concerns is how the worker perceives his company.
If once some workers could recognise themselves in the company they worked for, this perception has now changed.

It certainly changed for people like me, who looked at the world of work when the Internet was already a reality and were confronted with ways of working very different from those in Italy.
In this way of looking at things, you work to achieve two goals: that the project is completed and that it works, and that the people who will use it are satisfied, whatever the purpose.
This, of course, is as far as my specific field is concerned.

I have often met companies for whom this way of working is not enough, and they demand that we marry the company.
To them, I would like to say a few words.

The sense of belonging may be there in those sporadic cases when the company makes you feel at home, has a genuine and continuous dialogue with the worker, and when you can share its values because they are codified, transparent and above all, correspond to the reality of what the company actually does.
There are many companies where it is clear what the values are, but then they collapse miserably when faced with decisions that have nothing to do with those values.
This is equivalent to saying that no one forbids, least of all me, that a company should have profit as its core value, but simply that one should not pretend that values are other. Nobody is asking you; nobody expects it.
But that your business is conducted clearly and cleanly is up to you; if you flaunt specific values but then do business with dubious companies and people, you are making a doubly bad impression because no one is asking to say anything about you.
Asking the worker in such cases to be loyal to the company is ridiculous, to say the least.
One and only one thing is permissible to ask of the worker: to do his job well, that is, to be professional.

The advice, therefore, is: do not make a fool of yourselfand have a minimum of consistency; any worker will appreciate that.
And on your side, try to appreciate those who repay you with a job well done.

Best regards
